Brief Narrative and Problem Statment
Bringing a clean, minimalistic, and easy to understand take to cybersecurity. Securing your internet of thing devices can be confusing and overwhelming. Even for the most tech-savy college student, protecting your data and information from being stolen from your led lights can be a hefty task. Overseer aims to condense the sprawling information that most firewalls give you and deliver the same important information in easy to digest pieces. By keeping Notifications minimal and to the point, the user can easily and quickly understand the safety of their network and what may be causing more harm than good.
This is the Overseer app splash. It is the first thing the user will see when they load up the app. It is very simple, and has two options: Login and Sign up.

Overseer hugely relates to Information Technology, as IoT applies to all devices that require some sort of connection, whether it's through software or the internet. All this innovation requires is one computer or mobile device and a network to function. The average user of an internet-connected device is aware of hackers and malicious people that are out there on the internet. However, some are not entirely certain as to how secure their devices are, much less their network. This project’s goal is to make users more aware of the security of their network and how secure their devices are. Even if the average user is confused about what proper security measures they need to take to keep themselves safe, Overseer will teach them while also giving alerts to security threats and unrecognized devices/connections.
Why is this topic important at this point in time?
IoT devices are becoming more popular than ever, they include everyday items found all around us. LED lights, speakers, apple watches, even newer model cars are a part of this family. It is estimated that over 18 billion IoT devices exist (30 Internet of Things Stats & Facts for 2022 | Industry Trends | CompTIA), and as we continue to advance technologically, the IoT family will grow bigger and bigger. Yet the standards of security for them are minimal, allowing more and more opportunities for attacks to happen.

Our security application is different from others because instead of just “doing it” like Norton, we teach our customers what we are protecting them from, and how they can protect themselves better. We get it, IT is big and confusing- not everyone is a startup genius.Sometimes we just want pretty lights in our room without having to worry about what creep is on the other side. But by breaking it down and using relatable and iconic characters, we hope to make IT a conversation easy enough to have with a baby, and you can use your LED lights without worry.
